lanai

went to the island of lanai last wednesday. very pretty island. not alot to do.












it started out as a beautiful morning.
walked to the four seasons resort from the harbour.

then caught the shuttle up to the four seasons resort, the Koele resort, at the top of the mountain.
very different weather up there.
but loads of nice gardens and paths.




























































































































































had lunch in lanai city.
found this street sign very amusing.
there really isnt anything else of any interest there.









made our way back down to the four season on the beach and did some snorkelling.


















we were told that there had been dolphins in the bay about an hour before, and we could hear them while snorkelling, but they didnt come back.
we did see them from the ferry on the way back to maui though.
a pod? group? gang? loaf? of about 25 or so.
spinner dolphins! they jump out of the water and spin and roll in the air.
so cute!
and whales. saw tons of those too..

no subject

im having wierd days.
last night i was ready to go out and party, but my partiers (danielle and fry) were not into it.
we drank a bit in their room and then i came back to mine at midnight.

i tossed and turned for hours.
trolled the net.
ate some peanut butter and bread.
nothing.
around seven i slept a bit, but even then fitfully and interrupted.
got up around one, accomplished nothing much, and even tried to nap again.
fruitless.

i dont know how im feeling right now.
or rather, i cant figure it all out.
i love hawaii, but im tired of not having my actual space and my stuff.
im actually missing having a real life, and im anxious to get home and set my new place up.
i dont know what is going to happen for me right now.
i def need to save more in order to move, but i also need the world to right itself before i do so.
i hope that work wont try to force me to sign some 9 month contract, and can keep it short so i dont commit to too much.

i should be relaxed after all this vacation, but instead im stressed and wondering and unsure.
and unhappy.
i want a do over for 2009 thus far.
im not into it.
i just dont know.

and to top it all off, my bottom teeth are bugging me.
that sort of growing achey feeling they can get.
but they shouldnt be doing that.
my wisdom teeth are out an everything.
but ache they do.
harrumph.

maui maui maui

never a dull moment.

we found a hang out in town a week and a bit ago. been four times now.
mulligans.
its an irish pub somehow. or just a fun pub.
we already know all the staff and have a team of friends there.
its like cheers, they all know our name.

but of course it all has to come with at least *some* drama, right?!
so harper-lee became a favourite of the bouncer, gary.
now, harper-lee is married, so nothing went on, but it gave gary something to see outside of his crazy life.
because of that, garys ex-wife wanted to kick her ass.
gary is a fighter, like ufc style, and taught his ex-wife to fight.
so here is how saturday night went down:

we head to mulligans, have some good times
gary catches wind that his ex-wife is on her way down to fight harper-lee
garys best friend janet takes us to her house behind the bar
its like one of those hippy surf homes, with shit hanging everywhere from 20 year old pictures to dream catchers. i wish i had taken photos.
also, a very sweet dog named buddy love and a white cat.
janet comes back for us and says we can go back and she wont let anyone get near harper-lee
we go back and are promptly told that this girl will cut harper-lee and we need to get out. now.
so we go out the back door.
get to jims truck (these are all locals by the way, except harper-lee) and end up at a cantina
have some drinks, some odd encounter with a huge dude that just kept saying that dark hair turned him on and trying to take our drinks
left there and went to the garage that jim works at so gary could come meet us there
you see, this ex-wife knows their trucks and would have been looking all over for them to find her
it was speculated that she even went by the hotels looking for the trucks
hang out at said garage and look at facebook and myspace
gary comes, we all hang out a bit
we head back to the hotel
its 4 am

turns out that gary went home and the ex broke into his house and was beating the crap out of him. he had to wake up travis, his roommate, so that there would be a witness. she tore his bedroom door down, destroyed his room, kicked him a bunch of times so his arm is all swollen and messed up and who knows what else. she got a 24 hour restraining order against her, and hopefully now has a longer one.

yikers!

and nothing even happened. they just hung out. harper-lee went home now though, so hopefully that end of the drama is done with. but man alive.
quite the adventure....

i dont even know how that happens, but there it is.

its march 1 and i leave on march 8.  man alive.  

where did the time go?

we've had some crazy evenings, but ill post more about that when i get to the new room

harper lee is going home today, so danielles mom, marilyn, is letting me stay in the extra room in her place.  peace and quiet and clean!

no kids!!!

im so stoked.  i even get my own bathroom.

and then the internet will work properly so i can post pictures again.

yay.

right now, im going to go and try to relax on the beach in gale force winds.

even though i know already that ill have kids trying to get me to go to the pool with them.

ah well.

i cant do that here, so this is what im putting.

so this cold got out of control.  actually, i guess i cant call it a cold anymore.

this viral sinus infection i have somehow gotten has sent me to the doctors here in hawaii.

doctors that are very expensive.

during a time that i have no insurance coverage at work.

so its going to cost me almost 650 cdn.

fack.

this trip has been so damn expensive.

i want it to end now, but i dont even go back to work until mar 16.

i think as i save back up again, i will have to open a bank account overseas and send money to it.

that way i cant get at it again.  then i have to go to get my money.

otherwise ill never go.

i really thought this year would start out better...

well, i have a cold.  thats just it.

started my open water scuba diving course the other day, but I have two dives left to do, but my stuffed up sinuses say no diving is happening.. hurts the ears!  so its chill out time.

i just hope that this will clear up soon so i can finish my dives..

gonna go blow my nose now..

oh, and our wireless internet has crapped out again so i have no access to my pics.  boo.

the internet is finally working here but it is so annoying i could lose it. i have to keep manually reconnecting... took forever to get the next 3 blogs up, complete with their pics.

Its 430 am. Im at the airport. My flight isn’t until 600 to maui but the shuttle had to pick me up at 3 or nothing. So im writing this in word and will post it later. Well, now, as you are reading it now.

(disclaimer .usince it is being written in word, it is automatically capitalizing words and i am not going to go back through and change it to post. So there.)

So, my days in oahu are over. But lets recap shall we?

Friday i finished up at work as much as you can when you are going away for a long time and need to clean up a zillion odds and ends. Hung out for a bit with the guys and then headed back to my ex-home where heather was aleady setting up her new home. It was pretty strange to see someone elses stuff where mine has been for the last four years, but it felt good. Change is good.

Janine picked me up after some bad luck on her end and we headed down to seattle. Since we left so late, we didn’t get there til after 1 am so we just grabbed a cheap-ish hotel room and passed out. The shuttle came for me at like, 6 am or something, i don’t recall, maybe 7 and i was off.

I landed in Honolulu and found my mom at the Hawaiian airlines terminal. We hopped our flight and were off to the big island!

Im going to break this into segments so its not so intense to read at once. And also so i don’t have to fuss with some many pictures.
