i just saw this on the news while i was at the bar this evening...
when my mom and i flew over kilauea looking for lava and such on the big island, there was discussion about one of four volcanos in the world being due to erupt.
one being kilauea in hawaii, one in alaska, one in japan and one in south america i think, though i cant be sure.
in any event, it was japan, and mount sakurajima that has erupted..

madness! i guess they mostly saw it coming and were able to clear the 2 km area it hit, though i am still reading up.
i just hope that this is the big eruption that they were expecting and that there isnt more to come... its scary. and frickin awesome too. the raw power of the earth... its amazing....

I know it's scary and i wouldn't wanna live next to one, but i like the fact that this planet can get rid of all of us anytime it wants to.

yes, thats the one we flew over a month ago. madness!
the dried lava i walked on was only 4 months old!!
and i would think id be terrified to live close to an active volcano, but the locals i talked to just take it as a way of life... very strange to think about...
