Phones!

I just found out that my phone carrier changed the rules for text messaging in August and I didnt know it. Since 2005, I have paid $10 a month for unlimited text messaging in North America. No matter where I was in North America.

Well, I was just looking over my latest bill, and I see that I have paid over $20 *additionally* for texting. This is because some contract that used to be in place is no longer there, and now I pay $0.60 to send texts when I am in the US. Also, $0.15 to receive them when I am down there. Rubbish!! I hate this country and their stupid phone rates! In the US you can call anywhere in the states and no long distance! Not here...

I need to see how it all works overseas. I bet its better somehow. I sure hope it is..

Is it actually legal for them to change the specifics of your contract without asking you to sign a new one first? I'd look into it, because I know that when they were going to roll this out with Telus and Bell they said (and I may have misheard them) that anyone who already has a texting plan didn't have to worry about the new fees.

Also, our entire communications industry is a joke. Internet providers, cell phone, landline... all are pretty bad. I'm slowly dumping Telus for a combination of Shaw and Bell. I'm stuck with Bell for 3 years, but if they piss me off to much I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go to Rogers.

the basis of my texting plan is still the same, so i did not get affected by that part. cause you are right, they cant mess with that.

but the charges that i was apparently occuring when in the states and texting, has gone up. i dont recall ever seeing charges for texting in the states, but could be that at one time it wasnt charged, and then that has gone up... i dont know.

all i know is that im not impressed, its cheaper to just buy some stupid pay as you go phone for the states and use that while you are there, and that i am stuck with my shitty phone until long after i have ditched my account here in canada. hmph.
